Student answer (Band 6.5)

Many people say that by learning a foreign language is the only reason to travel for work or a foreign country, while other people have different views, I agree with this statement since there are other reasons for learning a language other than work or travel. I will talk about other reasons to learn a language and and show why I agree with this statement.

There are many reasons other than work or travel to learn a new language, an example can be to learn about new cultures and traditions it makes people understand about different cultures and makes people cherish other cultures and by the most obvious in learning a language is communication being able to communicate with other people so you can understanding them to have a conversation plays a very big role when your learning a language. communication aside it helps in literature being able to read and write the language also plays a important role since it shows you have taken the time to have deep dive in the history of country. However this is not the only reason as many people learn a language most people learn the language since they moving to a new country, They learn the language to to get them by for the first few months then they get by then later on they learn the the language to connect with people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. While you mention cultural understanding and communication, these points are not fully explored or supported with specific examples. The structure of the argument is clear, but the explanation of why people learn languages for reasons other than work or travel lacks depth. To improve, ensure that each supporting point is expanded with a concrete example or a more detailed explanation to fully satisfy the requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'and' to connect clauses. Some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the logical flow within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast'). Referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure would benefit from more sophisticated signposting to guide the reader through your reasoning.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'big role' and 'good reasons', which are somewhat generic. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'deep dive in the history' and 'lean langues'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to language acquisition and cultural exchange. Expanding your vocabulary to include more nuanced synonyms will help convey your ideas with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the flow. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many people lean langues'), missing articles, and punctuation errors, such as the comma splice in the first paragraph. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction, particularly the correct use of relative clauses and prepositions, will significantly improve the accuracy and readability of your work.
