Student answer (Band 7.0)

A portion of community believes that the purpose of learning international language is only to either visit the foreign country or have a earning there, while, some opine that there are many other reasons for one to learn a new language. I believe that a person can have surplus reasons to learn a foreign dialect rather than serving for only travelling and work purposes.

Ones, who argue that foreign language like English should only be studied for visiting or working in other country, has the opinion based on their personal preferences and comfort. Many people like to communicate in their local language because of the cultural or family teachings. Even, in countries like India, every state has its own unique speech and all the subjects are taught to kids in their personal language. So, people believe that learning new language is not needed until unless someone decides to move out of the country for any reason.

On the other hand, some people believes that learning English as a foreign language improve personal and professional growth of an individual. In todays modern and digital world, learning an international language can open various career pathways for a person in his own country. One can either be a language tutor, or a multinational company's employee depending on the skills learnt which can be very rewarding professions in terms of money. In addition. learning a new language brings confidence and positive attitude in life which helps to grow a strong mindset.

Overall, i, personally, believe that the choice of being multilinguist does not comes alone from the idea of travelling abroad but also have various other logical causes which can definitely lead to bigger progress in life. However, the choices are individual and people evaluate options based on what brings them the most satisfaction.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of cultural preservation and professional growth. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the benefits of learning a language for personal growth is a bit brief and could have been expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis. The position is maintained throughout, but the supporting arguments could be more robust to reach a higher band. Overall, all parts of the prompt are addressed, and the response is well-focused on the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand' and 'In addition', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'Even, in countries like India'. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing and punctuation, such as the fragmented sentence 'In addition. learning a new language...'. Despite these minor flaws, the progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'multilinguist' and 'pathways', which is positive. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'have a earning' instead of 'earn a living' and 'surplus reasons' instead of 'numerous reasons'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the expression. A wider range of more natural collocations would improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'some people believes', 'does not comes') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences being incorrectly split or joined. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to prevent the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to basic grammatical rules and proofreading would be beneficial.
