Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'job opportunities' is supported by a generic mention of French, but the explanation lacks depth. The second body paragraph, discussing cultural benefits, is also quite brief and relies on repetitive phrasing. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended to meet the requirements for a higher band. The introduction is slightly confusing as it states the essay will support the 'former' point of view, but the conclusion is somewhat ambiguous in its phrasing regarding the two perspectives.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Secondly', and 'However', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To epitome' (which is an incorrect usage) and 'in overview of later point of view'. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors that make the logical connection between ideas less smooth than it could be. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher score. There are several instances of awkward word choice or incorrect collocations, such as 'benefit masses', 'boast our confidence' (instead of 'boost'), and 'in order to travel to or work'. The phrase 'To epitome' is an incorrect attempt at using a cohesive device. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'global firms' and 'diverse culture', the overall range is limited, and the errors occasionally draw attention to the language rather than the content.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with articles ('in modern era french language'), subject-verb agreement ('other say'), and preposition usage ('in regards'). Some sentences are poorly constructed, such as 'easy to migrate to another countries helps to boast our confidence level', which lacks a clear subject. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and impact the overall fluency of the writing. A greater focus on basic grammatical accuracy is needed.
