Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While the first body paragraph provides relevant examples regarding employment and travel, the second paragraph is less focused, with some repetition of ideas (e.g., mentioning 'art and culture' multiple times). The conclusion is slightly confusing as it states the author supports the 'later' point of view but then reiterates the 'former' (travel/work) as being extremely helpful. This contradiction weakens the clarity of the position. To improve, ensure that the personal opinion is consistently supported throughout the essay and that each paragraph introduces distinct, well-developed arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'However', and 'To conclude'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'In regards' at the beginning of the second sentence. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the conclusion where the terms 'former' and 'later' are used in a way that contradicts the preceding arguments. The flow of ideas is generally logical, but the transition between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall progression of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'undeniable', 'crucial', and 'induce', though some collocations are slightly awkward, such as 'this benefit masses' or 'to epitome'. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'in the favor of' instead of 'in favor of'. While the range is sufficient to communicate the message, it lacks the precision and naturalness required for a higher band score. Expanding the range of academic collocations and refining word choice would enhance the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'especially in younger ones' (should be 'especially among young people'), 'only reasons for learning' (missing 'the'), and 'migrate to another countries' (should be 'migrating to other countries'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency and accuracy of the writing. Increasing the variety of error-free complex structures is recommended.
