Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 163 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both views, the discussion is superficial and incomplete. The second view is introduced but left unfinished, and the conclusion is missing. Because the response is substantially under-length and lacks a balanced discussion of the prompt's requirements, it does not fully address the task. To improve, you must ensure you write at least 250 words, fully develop each viewpoint with clear examples, and provide a coherent conclusion that summarizes your position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay shows some attempt at organization through the use of linking words like 'To commence with' and 'However'. However, the progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and incomplete sentences. Paragraphing is present but the content within the paragraphs is underdeveloped and lacks logical flow. The referencing is often unclear, and the lack of a concluding paragraph further hinders the overall coherence of the piece. To improve, focus on using cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details and a logical conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'oppertunites' instead of 'opportunities' and 'cultur' instead of 'culture'. The word choice is often imprecise, such as 'peoples going to abroad' and 'effectly'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly. To improve, you should practice using a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary and focus on accurate spelling and word forms. Reading academic articles or model IELTS essays can help you see how more sophisticated vocabulary is used in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'peoples going to abroad'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structures (e.g., 'this essay will outline... with logical conclusion'). The use of complex structures is attempted but is consistently inaccurate. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and incorrect capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb tenses. Consistent practice with simple, error-free sentences is a better foundation than attempting complex structures that are currently beyond your control.
