Student answer (Band 7.0)
The reasons for which an individual may learn a new language may vary from person to person. Some people think they should learn a new language only when needed, such as moving to a new country or working with foreign people. While, some are found of learning new languages and they count it as a skill.
The person who only cosiders learning a new language when required is absolutely right at his place. Beacuse it may save him a lot of time where he can put all his focus on other aspects of his life and he may also learn a language whenever he needs it. For instance, a friend of mine got German scholarship for his masters. Before moving to Germany, he learnt the basics of German so that he may contribute to the society and it'd help him a lot adjusting himself into a new country.
On the other hand, the person who learns a new language without having these specific reasons isn't wrong either. Some people are found of learning new languages and it's their hobby. Just like someone who plays soccer in his free time. For example, some people learn a language so that they may read their favourite book, or watch their favourite season. Some people learn learn a new language just because they want to explore the culture and the history associated with that specific language.
Additionaly, learning a new language, no doubt, adds a lot to your confidence. It builds your character and adds a great impression to your personality. We should always motivate the person who is willing to learn a new language no matter what the reason is. Because learning something new is always beneficial if we use it the right way.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the practical necessity of language for work/study versus the personal enrichment of learning for a hobby. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'confidence' in the final paragraph is introduced but not fully explored or linked back to the prompt's core tension. While the task is addressed, the arguments could be extended with more depth to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand', 'For instance', and 'Additionally', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints and the conclusion. The progression of ideas is clear, though the link between the final paragraph and the preceding arguments could be more seamless to improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some spelling errors (e.g., 'cosiders', 'Beacuse', 'found of' instead of 'fond of') and minor collocation issues. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to discuss the topic, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. The use of 'found of' is a recurring error that impacts the lexical quality. To improve, the student should focus on using more varied and precise academic vocabulary rather than relying on basic descriptive terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('a friend of mine got German scholarship') and punctuation errors. Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'The person who only cosiders learning a new language when required is absolutely right at his place.' Despite these errors, the communication of ideas is not significantly impeded. Increasing the variety of complex structures and proofreading for basic grammatical slips would help improve the score.
