Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the task. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention practical needs like employment and travel, the explanation is brief and lacks depth. Similarly, the second body paragraph touches on cognitive benefits and cultural understanding but remains superficial. To reach a higher band, you need to extend your arguments with specific examples or more detailed explanations. The conclusion is present but somewhat repetitive. Overall, the ideas are relevant but under-developed, which limits the score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'To embark with' is not a standard transition, and 'At last but not least' is a cliché that does not effectively link ideas. There are also issues with referencing; some sentences feel disconnected, such as the final sentence which stands alone as a fragment. The progression of ideas is sometimes difficult to follow because the logical links between sentences are weak. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic phrases like 'learning foreign language' and 'communicate easily'. There are also instances of word-choice errors, such as 'introduced critical thing' and 'Getway', which hinder clarity. You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but the range is not sufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision. To improve, focus on learning collocations and more sophisticated synonyms for common words. Avoid using informal or non-standard phrasing to ensure your writing maintains an appropriate academic tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'learning foreign language' instead of 'learning a foreign language'), incorrect prepositions, and subject-verb agreement errors. Some sentences are fragmented or incomplete, such as 'Foreign languages, for instant English, Spanish, French German.' These errors are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically the use of articles and proper punctuation, before attempting more complex structures.
