Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people argue that we need to opt for a foreign language, when moving abroad in terms of traveling, work or for higher education. While others believe that it does not rely upon these reasons, whether to learn a foreign language, there are some other reasons for learning other languages other than these. Learning multi language helps you to communicate with the local in seek of help or guidance, whenever you are traveling to a new country.

On the one hand, it is evident that many people learn to adapt foreign language, whenever they are moving abroad for higher education or work. This eases in seeking jobs for the individuals or finding a part-time job for the students to look after their expenses as well as to pay their tuition fees. Additionally, learning a foreign language is quite an advantage for such individuals because it helps them to survive in another country, where communication is important in order to build connections

On the other hand, learning a new language does not mean only when you are moving to a new location for in search of job or education purpose. Some people have passion of learning a new language as their hobbies. Moreover, people learn new languages if they are going to a country for a vacation, it helps them to learn their tradition, interact with the locals and take part in the cultural activities thus, there are many benefits of learning a new language.

In my opinion, people should apricate the individuals who learn new languages to improve their skills, whether it may be for their higher education or for finding jobs. Learning their native language gives a sense of respect toward their culture and tradition.

In conclusion, there are many reasons as well as benefits of learning a new language, firstly, it helps you communicate with the locals, majorly when they are unaware of the universal language, it will be difficult for communication. lastly, it helps you to find new people with new interest and may be beneficial in finding jobs for the individuals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'hobbies' and 'traditions' is mentioned but lacks specific, well-supported examples to fully explore the depth of the topic. The conclusion introduces new points (e.g., 'unaware of the universal language') that were not previously discussed, which slightly weakens the coherence of the argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that each main idea is fully extended with concrete evidence or logical reasoning rather than just listing benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the transition 'majorly when they are unaware' in the conclusion. Additionally, some sentences are disjointed, and the flow between ideas could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of the argument feels a bit repetitive, particularly in the final paragraph where points are restated rather than synthesized.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'opt for', 'eases in seeking', and 'apriciate' (likely a misspelling of 'appreciate'). However, there are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'adapt foreign language' instead of 'adopt a foreign language' or 'learn a foreign language'. The range is sufficient to discuss the topic, but the lack of precision in word choice prevents a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the local', 'a foreign language'), prepositions, and verb forms (e.g., 'Learning multi language helps', 'people have passion of learning'). Some sentences are structurally awkward, such as 'it does not rely upon these reasons, whether to learn a foreign language'. These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
