Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to address the prompt effectively. While it mentions language learning, the arguments are disjointed and do not clearly discuss both views or provide a coherent personal opinion. The ideas are underdeveloped, and the text is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the ability to fully explore the topic. The response lacks a clear structure, making it difficult to identify a central argument or supporting evidence. To improve, you must ensure you address all parts of the prompt, provide clear reasons and examples for each perspective, and meet the minimum word count requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay lacks logical progression and clear paragraphing. While there are attempts at paragraph breaks, the ideas within them do not follow a logical sequence. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the misuse of 'There for' and 'more over'. The lack of clear transitions between sentences makes the text difficult to follow. To improve, focus on using linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'however', 'consequently') to connect ideas and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that relates back to the main prompt.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is very limited and often inaccurate, which frequently impedes communication. Phrases like 'all place study problem is same' and 'born time to level is high level' are unclear and do not convey the intended meaning. There is a lack of academic vocabulary appropriate for an IELTS Task 2 essay. To improve, focus on learning collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to education and language acquisition. Avoid using informal or fragmented phrasing and try to use more precise words to express your ideas clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that distort meaning. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'student is confused'), tense usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, making the text difficult to read. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures, and the basic sentences are often flawed. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including subject-verb agreement and correct verb tenses. Proofreading for basic errors and practicing the construction of simple, error-free sentences is essential before attempting more complex structures.
