Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country. Others say that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
There is a contradiction btween two groups of indviduals on reason for learning a new foreign language. Some use to say that one should learn foreign languagae only if they have to go to that respective country for study or job purpose. and some oppose this statement and perspective.
in my personal opininon if someone learn any foreign language it can open multiple doors for them even if they do not travell to that respective country.
There is reason behind this thought, beacuse a couple of weeks ago i was working in a manufacturing firm ad they just baught a 3d printer form china. to install that system the vendor sent some of his workers from china. and they did not know how to speake our native language that is urdu. To cater this problem our organization sourced a traslaotor who knew how to speak chineese as well as Urdu. and he charged a huge amount for this job. that's why i beleive in learnig as many foreign languages as you can.
beside this experience i have witnessed many individuals earning a good living out of this profession of translator, even my uncle is holding a very reputable posistion in a joint organization just due to his multilingual skills.
Other than translator there are multiple job options one can have just due to having a foreign language skill. you can wrok in costomer support call centers where your job will be to provide guidance to the customers in the countries whose language you know about.
In the end to summarize my topic i would say that if one find opportunity to learn new language of any country, he or she should must go for it. and i do not see any solid reason to oppose this argument.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a relevant personal example regarding a translator, the discussion of the 'other' view—that language learning is only for travel or work abroad—is underdeveloped. To reach a higher band, you should expand on why some people hold that specific view before refuting it. The argument is consistent, but the depth of analysis is restricted by the reliance on personal anecdotes rather than broader societal or cognitive benefits of language acquisition.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition 'beside this experience' and 'other than translator' are functional but basic. There are also issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as the fragmented sentence starting with 'and they did not know...' and the lack of smooth transitions between the introduction and the body paragraphs. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences flow logically into one another would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'multilingual skills' and 'manufacturing firm'. However, there are several spelling errors (e.g., 'btween', 'indviduals', 'chineese', 'traslaotor', 'posistion') and some awkward phrasing, such as 'use to say' instead of 'argue'. To improve, focus on accuracy in spelling and using more precise collocations. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to communicate, but it lacks the sophistication and flexibility required for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include incorrect verb forms ('if someone learn' instead of 'learns'), missing articles ('a 3d printer'), and punctuation errors, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters and improper sentence fragmentation. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit the score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and ensure that every sentence has a clear subject and main verb.
