Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, covering financial gain, career growth, business expansion, and literature. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the argument about 'financial gain' is mentioned in multiple paragraphs without significant expansion. While the position is clear, the supporting points could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. The structure is logical, but the content feels a bit thin in terms of critical analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'On contrary', 'Thus', and 'In conclusion'. However, some of these transitions are used incorrectly or sound unnatural (e.g., 'On contrary' should be 'On the contrary'). Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. While the overall arrangement is coherent, the lack of sophisticated linking words and some awkward phrasing prevents a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it is often repetitive and lacks precision. There are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'currer pathways' (career pathways), 'obtein' (obtain), and 'commend on liturature' (command of literature). The range of vocabulary is limited, and the student struggles to use less common lexical items accurately. To improve, the student should focus on learning word families and collocations rather than relying on basic, sometimes misused, terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include incorrect article usage (e.g., 'A learning a foreign language'), subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'some peoples thinks'), and punctuation mistakes. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent and occur in almost every sentence. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading to eliminate these frequent slips.
