Student answer (Band 6.0)
While some people believe that the main reason for learning a foreign language is for traveling or working porpuses overseas, others argue that there are there are more significant reasons. I strongly agree with the latter view because it learning a foreign language is also often necessary locally and imporves cognitive abilities.
On the one hand, learning a foreign language can be extremelly helpful during traveling and necessary when working in a foreign country. When peolple is able to communicate in the native language of the place that they visit, it can create a greater traveling experience. Ordering food, asking for directions and small talks are an essential part of a trip, and being able to communicate effectively allows travellers enjoy even more their travel experience, while benefiting from the cultural exchange. Furthermore, local residents often appreciate when foreingers strive to learn and speak their language. As a result, people build meaningful relationships while creating cross-cultural opportunities.
On the other hand, some people argue that there are some other reasons beyond learnning a foreign language. Many multinational companies operate in many countries around the globe. These organizations require bilingual peoplple who can communicate effectively with their clients and colleagues. Moreover, learning a another language also stimulates the cognitive abilities, helping individuals to be more eloquent and smarter, which significantly contribute to personal growth. For example, those who consistently practice speaking another language often find more easier to express ther emotions and ideas.
In my opinion, learning a foreign language has significantly more benefits than only travel and work purposes. I strongly believe that it should be a mandatory part of the schools curriculum to help students benefit from its benefits.
In conclusion, although work and travel are among the most common purposes of learning a foreing language, there are some others greadvantages that are highly beneficial. Therefore, I believe that incorporating foreign language classes to the schools curricula would be a great way to prepare students for their future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and clearly states a position in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the cognitive benefits of language learning and the professional requirements in multinational companies. However, the development is somewhat uneven; the second body paragraph repeats the idea of 'work' which was already covered in the first paragraph, rather than exploring entirely new dimensions of the 'other reasons' mentioned in the prompt. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported point that directly answers the prompt's requirement to discuss 'other reasons' beyond travel and work.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is appropriate, with each paragraph focusing on a central theme. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow; for instance, the phrase 'some other reasons beyond learnning' is slightly awkward. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the essay maintains a consistent focus throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, with attempts to use topic-specific language like 'cross-cultural opportunities', 'cognitive abilities', and 'multinational companies'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'porpuses', 'imporves', 'extremelly', 'peolple', 'foreingers', 'learnning', 'ther', and 'greadvantages'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable, though they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and try to incorporate more precise collocations to enhance the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, such as 'because it learning a foreign language is' (extra 'it'), 'When peolple is able' (subject-verb agreement), and 'find more easier' (incorrect comparative structure). There are also minor punctuation and article usage issues. While the writer demonstrates an ability to use complex sentences, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent proofreading would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
