Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, bilinguality has become a popular trend among the people. This trend has given rise to the debate, where some people argue that the only reason for learning a foreign language is either to work or to travel in a foreign country. On the other hand, some people believe that travel and work are not the only reason why someone should learn a foreign language. In my opinion, there are indeed more reasons such as, foreign culture exploration, personal interest and curiosity and many more for which people prefer to learn a foreign language.
Some people choose to migrate to a foreign country for work, which requires them to learn a particular foreign language. Moreover, some people who generally travel a lot also prefer to learn the foreign language of that particular country. These examples are the most general scenarios where people sought to learn a foreign language. These general exemplary scenarios promotes the argument of people, who believes that work and travel are the only reason, for which people learn a foreign language.
However, these are not the only reason for which people adopt the idea of learning a foreign language. Some people choose to learn a foreign language out of personal interest and curiosity to dive deep in to the language, culture and art of the particular foreign country. Moreover, professionals such as artisans and historians also choose to study a foreign language for special use case and research purpose. For example, according to a survey by Oxford University, it was found that, more than 50% of the students choose to study a foreign language along with their main subjects. This study concretes the fact that there are more reason for learning a foreign language other than just work and travel
In conclusion, number of people opting to learn a foreign language are increasing day by day. This trend has led to the argument where some people believe that work and travel are the only reason for which people study a foreign language, on the other hand some people believe that there are more reasons to do so. In my opinion, there are indeed more reason such as personal interest, cultural and historical study and many more, for which people sought to study a foreign language.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of cultural exploration and academic research. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the conclusion, which restates the introduction almost verbatim. To reach a higher band, the student should aim to extend their arguments with more nuanced analysis rather than simply listing reasons. The position is consistent throughout, but the depth of the supporting examples could be improved to demonstrate a more sophisticated engagement with the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'On the other hand' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is a tendency to repeat phrases like 'the only reason for which people learn a foreign language' multiple times, which affects the flow. Improving the variety of cohesive links and reducing repetitive sentence structures would enhance the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'bilinguality', 'migrate', and 'artisans'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'This study concretes the fact' (should be 'confirms' or 'substantiates') and 'special use case'. The repetition of basic vocabulary items throughout the essay prevents it from reaching a higher band. Expanding the range of synonyms and collocations would significantly improve the lexical quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('These general exemplary scenarios promotes', 'some people who believes') and minor punctuation errors. The use of complex sentences is present but not always error-free. To improve, the student should focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the use of articles and pluralization. The majority of the sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors keeps the score in the 6.0 range.
