Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument, but the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. While you state your opinion, the supporting arguments lack depth. For instance, the claim that learning a language is 'therapy' is mentioned but not explained or linked effectively to the prompt. The essay also drifts slightly in the third paragraph, where you discuss the difficulty of learning a language, which is not directly relevant to the reasons for learning one. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on justifying why people learn languages beyond just work or travel, providing concrete examples or logical reasoning for each point.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal transitions. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and some linking words are used incorrectly, such as 'While, others believe' at the start. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of ideas within paragraphs could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one without relying on repetitive structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'adapting a foreign language' (instead of 'acquiring' or 'learning'), 'upgradation', and 'in every aspects'. You rely on simple, repetitive phrases like 'learn a foreign language' throughout the text. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to linguistics, personal development, or professional growth, and pay closer attention to word forms and standard collocations to ensure your writing sounds more natural and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include article usage ('the German language'), subject-verb agreement ('my sister learn'), and prepositional errors ('in every aspects'). There are also issues with sentence fragments and awkward phrasing, such as 'should not for only working'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly verb tenses and pluralisation, to improve the overall quality of your sentences.
