Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both views, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient depth. The position is stated but not consistently supported throughout the text. The reliance on vague statistics (e.g., '60% people') without clear context or logical connection to the prompt weakens the overall task response. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and relevant examples, ensuring you meet the length requirement to allow for full development of your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often unclear. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'At the outset', 'However', 'In conclusion'), they are sometimes used incorrectly or in a way that does not logically connect the sentences. The referencing is occasionally confusing, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between the topic sentence and the supporting evidence is abrupt. The flow of the argument is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors, making the text difficult to follow at times. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and spelling errors, such as 'professnal', 'advacing', 'mother tong', and 'sharpe your mind'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely, often relying on basic or misused terms. For example, 'spend easy and high level life' is not a natural collocation. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to education and career development and pay closer attention to accurate spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'some person say', 'the was to follow'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack the necessary complexity expected at higher bands. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are frequently faulty, leading to confusion. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and verb tense consistency would be a beneficial first step.
