Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country. Others say that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language, both of statements are correct but i agree the second statement i discuss both opinions bellow:

Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country this statement is correct we try to understand and learn a foreign language when we are going to the foreign country because it is very helpful and important to communicate with people for example if i go to the Germany and i don not speak Germany that it is a challenge to me to survive there without speaking to everyone it is quite tough to me and on the other hand if i know german language i easily communicate with every person i need a job easily that is basically a reason that if you are in a foreign country language are very important it is quite necessary then.

Others say that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language.

life is not all about to earn money and money life is about to know some new things like different skills and different language for example there is a punjabi person they know english, punjabi, pastoo, and german language it increase his experience and it is very helpful for his he found his job very easily because he wants to communicate with every kind of person if they go to a foreign country like germany they know the language so they communicate easily and settle in germany easily the main reason is that they prepare already and it has a experience so he donot want such a difficulty.so it is quite good to learn a different kinds of languages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding the necessity of language for travel and work are repetitive, and the second viewpoint—that there are other reasons to learn a language—is not fully explored beyond a brief mention of 'new skills'. The essay lacks depth and specific, well-reasoned examples to support the claims. The structure is somewhat disjointed, and the position, while stated, is not consistently maintained or clearly argued throughout the body paragraphs. To improve, you should expand on the 'other reasons' for learning a language, such as cognitive benefits, cultural appreciation, or personal growth.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear organizational structure. Paragraphing is used, but the internal flow of ideas is weak. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas, making the text feel like a series of loosely connected statements. For example, the transition between the two viewpoints is abrupt, and the use of punctuation is inconsistent, which hinders the logical progression of the argument. You should focus on using linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to connect your ideas and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple phrasing such as 'very helpful', 'very important', and 'very easily'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'both of statements' instead of 'both statements' and 'prepare already' instead of 'prepare in advance'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited and does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and avoid repeating the same adjectives and adverbs throughout your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'language are very important'), article usage, and sentence structure, such as run-on sentences and comma splices. The range of grammatical structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some attempts at complex ones that are often grammatically incorrect. For instance, 'if i go to the Germany and i don not speak Germany that it is a challenge' is structurally flawed. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense and articles will significantly improve your score.
