Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays , the topic of learning foreign languages ignited a intense debate among the various sectors of the society . As some deem that for travelling or to work in multinational companies , people like to learn international languages but some say that there are others reasons also . I will delve into the both contrasting viewpoints before embarking to the relevant conclusion.
There are various reasons that support the proponents . The first and foremost is, learning a foreign language is crucial for understanding the cultural and social behaviour of any other country . To clarify it, for exploring any foreign turf , language is the most important factor because by this, people can easily communicate with foreigners by which they can make strong bonds with them and also they can also understand their cultural aspects related to the history . Another compelling reason is that learning any international language comes in immensely handy for doing work in any other country . As people are able to get employment in any foreign country if they are familiar with other languages because they can understand all the strategies and plans that are made by the particular company and can host all the meetings and seminars in their native language which will increase the chances of their growth.
While opponents have also some concrete justifications for their suggestion. Firstly, people can make their career out of it . To explain it, if humans know the different international languages then they can become tourist guiders or tutors also and can earn a handsome amount of salary. Because , in every nation , many tourists come to explore the host country and the tourist guiders can guide them by communicating their own language and many students like to go abroad for their higher studies, so tutors can teach them the knowledge of that language which they want to acquire. Furthermore, these languages broaden the horizons of the knowledge by which people can easily crack any language test for getting permanent residence .
In conclusion, after giving the aforementioned viewpoints , I am in favour of proponents because everyone likes to learn international languages for the work or travel but opponents have also valid explanation that cannot be overlooked.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the two viewpoints and providing an opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The arguments regarding travel and work are clear, but the distinction between the two viewpoints becomes blurred in the third paragraph, where the 'opponents' section overlaps with the benefits of language learning already discussed. The conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph focuses strictly on the specific viewpoint requested and provide more nuanced, distinct supporting examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'The first and foremost', 'To clarify it', and 'Furthermore' are used to link sentences and ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the final paragraph where the reference to 'proponents' and 'opponents' is confusing given the earlier structure. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints, which helps the reader follow the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, with attempts to use less common items like 'proponents', 'immensely handy', and 'broaden the horizons'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'ignited a intense debate', 'exploring any foreign turf', and 'tourist guiders' (instead of 'tour guides'). While these errors do not impede communication, they demonstrate a lack of precision. Expanding your repertoire of collocations and refining your usage of academic terminology will help improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the society', 'the knowledge'), prepositions, and punctuation (e.g., unnecessary spaces before commas). Subject-verb agreement and pluralization also show inconsistency, such as 'there are others reasons'. While complex structures are attempted, they are often marred by these slips. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater precision.
