Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. While you mention that some people learn languages for satisfaction or as a hobby, this point is not fully explored or contrasted effectively with the primary argument regarding work and travel. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack depth and rely on similar examples throughout the essay. To improve, ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported idea rather than restating the same points about communication gaps and job opportunities.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'However, these are not main reson' is used awkwardly, and the connection between sentences is sometimes weak. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'these' without a precise antecedent. While there is a logical progression, the flow is hindered by repetitive phrasing and a lack of variety in linking words. Improving the range of transition signals would significantly enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'aoutside', 'counry', 'differen', 'openion', 'aboad', 'languae', 'demad', 'satifaction', 'atrongly') and some awkward collocations (e.g., 'beat the gap of communication'). While the meaning is generally clear, the limited vocabulary prevents the expression of more nuanced ideas. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic words and expanding your repertoire of topic-specific collocations related to language learning and professional development.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'a students gets', 'people who has'), missing articles (e.g., 'in abroad'), and incorrect preposition usage. While some complex structures are attempted, they are often faulty, which can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the use of articles and pluralisation, before attempting more complex grammatical forms. Proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement errors would also be highly beneficial.
