Student answer (Band 6.0)
Learning a foreign language has become increasingly common as compared to the past. While many individuals believe that people learn foreign language in order to travel or work in abroad, others argue that there are many reasons to learn a foreign language. This essay will examine both prospectives along with valid reasons and appropriate examples in the following paragraphs before the providing my opinion.
On the one hand, supporters of the former view believe that people learn foreign languages such as English and German for job purpose. This is mainly because foreign nations provide wide range of job opportunities and higher salaries, which can create desire in person to go there and grab the opportunities. A prime example of this is the USA, which offers high range of salary and high standard of living. Consequently, people needs to learn foreign languages. Moreover, individuals learn these languages for travelling purpose because it helps them to communicate with local peoples more effectively who live there.
On the other hand, advocates of the latter view argue that there are other several compelling reasons to learn a foreign tongue. First, by learning second language provides opportunities to people to engage with other person who comes from diverse culture backgrounds. As a result, they both can exchange the knowledge about their culture more effectively, which may help to understand other cultures in more effective manner.
In conclusion, although there are several other reasons such as exchange of culture knowledge to
learn a foreign tongue, I strongly believe that the main reasons why individuals learn foreign languages are work and travel as they want to work in a foreign country. Not only does it provide wide range of job opportunities, but also it helps them during their visit to abroad. They can easily communicate with local citizens.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the first body paragraph provides a clear reason (job opportunities), the second body paragraph is quite brief and lacks specific examples to support the argument regarding cultural exchange. The conclusion reiterates the main points but essentially repeats the arguments rather than synthesising them. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your supporting points with more detailed explanations or concrete examples, ensuring that the 'why' and 'how' are fully explored for each perspective presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two views. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Consequently' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the phrase 'before the providing my opinion' in the introduction, which is grammatically awkward and disrupts the cohesion. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the use of cohesive devices could be more natural and varied.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'compelling reasons', 'diverse cultural backgrounds', and 'job opportunities'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'work in abroad' (should be 'work abroad'), 'job purpose' (should be 'professional purposes'), and 'local peoples' (should be 'local people'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more attention to collocations and word forms. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic synonyms would help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('people needs to learn'), missing articles ('by learning second language'), and awkward phrasing ('exchange the knowledge about their culture'). While you attempt complex sentences, the control over these structures is inconsistent. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic errors like article usage and subject-verb agreement, and practice using a wider variety of complex structures with greater accuracy.
