Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, learning foreign language has become increasingly common. some people believe that the main purpose of learning another language is to travel and work abroad, while others argue that there are many other reasons to learn a foreign language. In my opinion, although travelling and working are important reasons. learning also provides several personal and educational benefits.
On the one hand, travelling and working in another country are major reasons why people learn foreign language. Firstly, knowing the local language male travelling easy and more enjoyable. For example, tourist who can speak other language of the country they visit can communicate easy with local peoples and understand different sings and they able to ask some directions and understand what they are ask you without depending some translation apps. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction. However, the essay is incomplete, as it ends abruptly at 'in concltion, i'. This failure to provide a conclusion significantly impacts the development of the response. While the ideas regarding travel, work, and cultural understanding are relevant, they are not fully extended. The lack of a concluding paragraph means the task is not fully addressed, which limits the score. To improve, ensure you complete the essay structure and provide more depth to your supporting arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Firstly', and 'In addition' to organize ideas. Paragraphing is present, but the abrupt ending disrupts the logical flow of the text. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'tourist who can speak other language of the country they visit', where the plural/singular agreement is inconsistent. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the lack of a final summary prevents the essay from achieving a higher level of cohesion and coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. There are several errors in word choice and form, such as 'male' instead of 'make', 'sings' instead of 'signs', and 'improver' instead of 'improve'. The student relies on simple, repetitive language. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise collocations and avoid basic spelling errors. For example, instead of 'create more friends', use 'build meaningful connections'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message, but it is not sophisticated.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('tourist who can speak', 'students... may be they are able'), missing articles, and incorrect word forms ('throw out' instead of 'throughout'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and incorrect capitalization at the start of sentences. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar structures prevents a higher score. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage.
