Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is two mind sets, A community says people learn foreign languages for some goals and other support the persons interest. I think, both groups are true if we see it according to specific surroundings.

However, some people are not interested in learning languages other than the mother tongue may be they find it challenging, but due to official work or study they are forced to learn foreign speeches. For example, a man move to other counter just for few days visit he would like to use translation applications rather than learning a new language. In addition, mostly people learn most common languages for higher studies such as English, Germen.

On the other hand, individuals who are interested in learning in new languages, may they have respect and love for other communities. They want to learn more about others culture. For instance, in Pakistan youngsters love to watch the Korean shows and they try to learn their language, in this way they can understand the dramas and Korean emotions more easily.

In my point of view, I consider both perspectives in similar way. Mostly people learn further languages for work, studies and for the business growth. In contras, Youngers one curious to learn about other communities and their traditions as they have love for them.

Overall, People represent their ideas according to what they experience in their surroundings but who chose to learn new languages totally depend on the need and emotions. After all, I support both groups of people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the practical reasons for language learning and the personal interest perspective. However, the development of ideas is limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'official work' is mentioned but not fully explored, and the example of Korean dramas is a good start but lacks depth. The position is clear, but the overall analysis remains somewhat superficial. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations and more sophisticated examples to support your arguments, ensuring that each point is fully extended rather than just stated.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'In contras' (meant to be 'In contrast') and 'Youngers one' are used in ways that disrupt the flow. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the opening sentence where 'A community' is used vaguely. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words and ensuring clear logical progression between sentences would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'Germen' instead of 'German', 'Youngers' instead of 'younger people', and 'foreign speeches' instead of 'foreign languages'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the frequent errors in collocation and spelling limit the score. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary and ensuring correct spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors, such as 'There is two mind sets' (subject-verb agreement) and 'a man move to other counter' (verb tense and word choice). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. The frequency of these errors occasionally causes difficulty for the reader. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, and sentence construction before attempting more complex structures.
