Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both views and provide a personal opinion, the discussion is underdeveloped and lacks depth. The arguments are repetitive, and the conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed explanations and relevant examples. The task requires a more balanced exploration of why people learn languages beyond just travel or work, such as for cognitive benefits, cultural appreciation, or personal interest, which were only briefly mentioned.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no clear paragraphing, which makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. While you attempt to use some cohesive devices like 'While' and 'Before going', the transitions between sentences are often abrupt or mechanical. The lack of a proper introduction and conclusion further hinders the logical flow of the argument. To achieve a higher band, you should organize your essay into distinct paragraphs: an introduction, two body paragraphs (one for each view), and a clear conclusion. Using a wider variety of linking words would also help connect your ideas more smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'learning', 'language', and 'good'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'having aura' and 'adapting other language', which are not natural English expressions. You also struggle with word forms, such as using 'prospective' instead of 'perspective'. To improve, focus on learning collocations and more precise vocabulary related to the topic of language acquisition. Expanding your range of synonyms and using more academic phrasing will help you convey your ideas with greater precision and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'The people says', 'some wants', and 'I reaches'. Additionally, there are errors in tense usage, such as 'before going I learnt... then I goes there'. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage. Practicing the construction of complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions will also help you demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
