Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views mentioned in the prompt, but the development of ideas is limited and often repetitive. While you state your opinion in the conclusion, the arguments provided—such as the mention of languages in India—are not clearly linked to the prompt's core question regarding the reasons for learning a foreign language. The essay lacks depth, and the points made are somewhat superficial. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a distinct, well-explained argument with clear examples that directly support your position. The overall response is quite brief in its conceptual development, which prevents it from reaching a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow between sentences is often disjointed. You use basic cohesive devices like 'firstly' and 'secondly', but the transitions between ideas are frequently mechanical or unclear. For instance, the shift from discussing foreign travel to the linguistic situation in India is abrupt and confusing. Referencing is also problematic; pronouns like 'it' or 'this' are sometimes used without a clear antecedent, making it difficult for the reader to follow your train of thought. Improved use of linking words and better paragraph structure would significantly enhance the clarity of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic words such as 'useful', 'learn', and 'foreign language'. There is little evidence of a range of vocabulary that would allow for precise expression. You frequently repeat the same phrases, such as 'foreign language' and 'foreign country', throughout the text. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'many different way' instead of 'ways' and 'give a opportunity' instead of 'an opportunity'. To improve, you should focus on learning synonyms and collocations related to education, travel, and career development to express your ideas with more variety and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many languages are used many different religion people'), article usage (e.g., 'a travel'), and sentence structure. You rely almost exclusively on simple sentences, and attempts at more complex structures are often grammatically incorrect. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences starting with lowercase letters or lacking proper structure. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses, pluralisation, and the appropriate use of articles before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
