Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 175 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the essay is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence. While the prompt asks to discuss both views and provide an opinion, the essay is underdeveloped. The arguments regarding travel and work are repetitive, and the second body paragraph is abandoned before the student can fully articulate the 'other reasons' for learning a language. To improve, you must ensure you provide a full introduction, two well-developed body paragraphs with specific examples, and a clear conclusion, while meeting the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay attempts to use cohesive devices like 'In the first hand' and 'In the second hand', but these are non-standard and awkward. Paragraphing is present, but the logical progression is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Referencing is often unclear, such as the vague use of 'it' and 'that person'. The flow of ideas is disjointed, and the lack of a conclusion makes the overall structure feel unfinished. To improve, focus on using standard transition signals like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion', and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'go at outside' instead of 'go abroad' or 'travel overseas', and 'morden generation' (spelling error). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to discuss the topic in depth, relying on basic terms like 'good', 'easy', and 'thing'. To improve, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary related to language acquisition and cultural exchange, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('A student... have a aim'), incorrect article usage ('at the foreign'), and awkward sentence structures ('Few individual opinioned that...'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. The range of structures is limited to simple sentences, with few attempts at complex grammatical forms. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
