Student answer (Band 6.0)
People argue about whether foreign language should only be learnt if you want to travel or work in foreign country or not. Honestly in my opinion you should definitely learn foreign language because it can help you connect with different people around the world easily whether it is online or in real life face-to-face meetup.
According to first group of people we should only learn a foreign language if we want to travel or work there. these people want to have simplicity in their life, and they believe there is no benefit in learning foreign language without any immediate need. According to them learning foreign language is just waste of time however, I don't agree with this viewpoint.
On the other side people of second group believes that learning a foreign language can be useful in their future. For example, learning German may not benefit today but in future if they get a chance to visit Germany for conference or public event. they can fit in easily with the locals and can get to know more about their culture. This gives them international exposure that helps them connect easily with more people in their life. I get more aligned with this view.
In my opinion learning a foreign language can help you in many different situations where you need help of some foreigner and he/she don't speak any common language. We at our home can make connections with people around different part of the word just by knowing their language.
To conclude, there is controversy about whether you should learn foreign language or not but according to me foreign language is not just for people who are traveling or studying abroad. Everyone should try to learn at least one foreign language.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both viewpoints and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'international exposure' is mentioned but not fully explored with specific, concrete examples. The discussion of the first viewpoint is also quite brief, relying on generalisations about 'simplicity' rather than deeper analysis of the practical necessity of language learning. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and specific illustrations, ensuring that the 'why' and 'how' are clearly articulated for each perspective presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'According to', 'On the other side'). Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt, such as the shift in the third paragraph from the example of German to the conclusion of that paragraph. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would significantly enhance the flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'international exposure' and 'controversy'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'make connections with people around different part of the word' instead of 'parts of the world'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and less common lexical items to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary. Avoid repetitive phrasing and focus on using words that precisely convey your intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles (e.g., 'in foreign country', 'in future') and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people of second group believes'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing commas after introductory phrases and occasional run-on sentences. To achieve a higher score, you need to increase the frequency of error-free sentences and pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules, especially regarding articles and pluralisation, which currently detract from the overall accuracy of your writing.
