Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many individual say that learning of foreign language is only necessary for doing work or to move one place to another. but some say that above mentioned reasons are not only the causes to learn other country speaking. Either foreign language is only compulsory for survival to another country or not is basic discussion of this essay. in this essay i will discuss both aspects with reason and examples and conclude with my opinion.

on one hand learning of foreign language is necessary for travelling person and that person who get employment opportunities. when we learn about local language of that country it give positive edge for career growth for example we can easily understand the speaking of other person and easily adjusted with their culture. when people travel than it also give confidence because if i want to know the direction and order food than local language is so helpful for guideline.

on the other hand knowing about foreign language is also important to learn about culture, environment of other country. when we are aware of foreign language we are closely connected with a country's history. secondly it also give educational opportunities as student may be able to study in foreign universities or access that information which is not available in native language.

in my opinion basically foreign language is too much important for travelling and doing work in other countries. but that are not the only reasons for understanding foreign language. you can improve your studies personal opportunities and learn about different country's culture and history.

in conclusion foreign language is too much important for travel one county to another country but its also have different other aspects which can't be ignored. language learning skill is valuable for personal and professional development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'educational opportunities' is mentioned but not fully explored with specific examples. The response covers all parts of the prompt, but the supporting points lack depth and detail, which prevents it from reaching a higher band. The position is consistent throughout, but the overall structure of the arguments could be more robust to better satisfy the requirements for a fully developed response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'on one hand', 'on the other hand', and 'in conclusion', but these are sometimes used in a mechanical or repetitive way. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'above mentioned reasons', which feels slightly awkward. While the essay is coherent overall, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better referencing to connect ideas more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher score. There is a reliance on basic, repetitive phrasing such as 'foreign language' and 'important'. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'speaking of other person' instead of 'the language spoken by others' or 'doing work' instead of 'pursuing a career'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of more sophisticated or varied vocabulary limits the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include 'Many individual say' (subject-verb agreement), 'learning of foreign language' (missing articles), and 'if i want to know the direction' (incorrect tense/article usage). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters at the start of sentences and improper use of commas. These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, although they do not completely impede communication.
