Student answer (Band 6.0)
There are debates that the reasons for people learning a foreign is only for the purpose of migration or to work in a foreign country while others argue that this are not the only reason while people learn a different language. In my opinion, I believe people learn foreign languages for different reasons best known to them.
In most countries, better job opportunities are rare and everyday people research various ways they can make improvements on their life. One of the reasons while people learn a different language is for migration this is due to the fact that they believe it would give them opportunities to experience life in a different part of the world, also they learn these languages because they want to secure better job opportunities where they believe the income would be better. Most people don't learn foreign languages for the purpose of travel but they teach other people like adults and children who are interested in learning a different language.
However, this is not the case in many occasions as most people learn learning foreign languages because they find it quite interesting due to the fact is different from the language they already know. Others learn foreign languages as part of their hobbies and this is also a way they keep theirselves busy and challenge themselves.
Finally, in my perspective I believe that learning a different language is very crucial due to the fact that this gives several benefits to the individual because when they migrate they don't only work they experience a different kind of life different from their culture, food and lifestyle.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the task. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument regarding migration is repetitive, and the point about teaching languages feels disconnected from the prompt's focus on why individuals learn languages. The conclusion is a bit vague, failing to fully synthesize the arguments presented. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, well-developed examples or explanations for why people choose to learn languages beyond work and travel, such as cognitive benefits or cultural appreciation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'in many occasions' and 'due to the fact is' disrupt the flow. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, particularly in the second paragraph where the shift from migration to teaching is jarring. While there is an overall logical progression, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the occasional misuse of referencing (e.g., 'this is not the case') limit the coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'learn' and 'different language'. Some word choices are unnatural, such as 'everyday people' instead of 'ordinary people' or 'keep theirselves busy' instead of 'keep themselves occupied'. While the meaning is clear throughout, the lack of less common lexical items and occasional collocation errors (e.g., 'make improvements on their life') keeps the score in the 6.0 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('this are not the only reason'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing ('there are debates that the reasons... is'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences that lack proper conjunctions or full stops. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to indicate a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms.
