Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views regarding the reasons for learning a foreign language. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention cognitive benefits and career advancement, the arguments lack depth and specific examples. The position is clear, but the supporting points are often repetitive or loosely connected to the prompt. For instance, the discussion on English as a 'famous' language dominates the essay, which distracts from the broader topic of foreign language acquisition. To reach a higher band, ensure each paragraph focuses on a distinct, well-explained reason rather than general statements about English.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is often hindered by awkward transitions and unclear referencing. Phrases like 'Somehow when we learn' and 'So that is very famous language' create a disjointed flow. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as the frequent use of 'So that' to start sentences. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear topic sentence followed by supporting evidence, making the argument feel somewhat scattered.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. There is a reliance on basic, repetitive words like 'famous', 'learn', and 'language'. You frequently use incorrect collocations, such as 'very demandable' instead of 'in high demand' or 'flex among your friends' which is too informal for an academic task. There are also errors in word form, such as 'the important of knowing' instead of 'the importance'. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific collocations and avoiding informal or slang expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('peoples are', 'all works done by'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, such as 'While , all the countries can share anything in this language.' The range of structures is limited, with a heavy reliance on simple sentences. Complex structures are attempted but often contain errors, such as 'if we are not acquainted some other languages... it can cause some issue'.
