Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by discussing both views on the reasons for learning a foreign language, and it provides personal opinions and examples. However, the position is predominantly one-sided towards the importance of work and travel. More balanced arguments should be included for stronger task achievement. Additionally, the conclusion could tie back to both views more effectively. Overall, a score of 6 is appropriate for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The organization of the essay is somewhat clear, with distinct paragraphs for different ideas. However, some sentences lack cohesion, making it difficult to follow the logic (e.g., 'Learning languages has become a tool of earnings from ages'). Linking words could be used more effectively to connect thoughts. A more structured conclusion summarizing the main points would increase coherence. Therefore, a coherence and cohesion score of 5 is suitable.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate, but there are instances of incorrect word choice and spelling, such as 'beneficials' and 'initiates.' Some phrases are informal (e.g. 'getting a great job'). More varied and precise vocabulary would enhance the quality of the argument. Overall, the lexical resource can be rated a 6 due to these issues, despite some appropriate terms concerning language learning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
Grammatical errors are evident throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('learning languages has become a tool of earnings from ages'), incorrect prepositions, and missing articles. Some sentences are also run-on and would benefit from clearer punctuation. Although the meaning is mostly conveyed, frequent grammatical inaccuracies suggests a score of 5 for Grammatical Range and Accuracy.
Overall feedback
Your essay presents relevant ideas regarding the reasons for learning a foreign language, showing awareness of both perspectives. To improve, consider providing more examples for both sides to create balance and increase depth. Also, enhance the coherence of your ideas by using linking words effectively, ensuring each paragraph flows to the next logically. Pay attention to lexical choices and grammar; proofread your work to catch errors in spelling and structure, which can affect clarity. Overall, focus on clarity and organization in future essays.
