Student answer (Band 6.0)
People say they learn foreign language because they want to travel, live or work abroad. Most people also think that these are not the only reason to learn a new language .
Language is a means of communication, it is the passing of information from one person to another and they understand. Most people are ignorant to learning new language because they don't have any reason to learn it but when they have the opportunity to travel , they see learning the foreign language as a means of communicating with the people in the country they want to travel to. Cost is also part of the reason people think they only need to learn a new language because it is very expensive to learn a language when they don't have any use for it but only when they want to travel to a foreign country, they can squeeze out the money from their pocket and pay for it.
Speaking of intelligence , knowing multiple languages makes an individual look more smarter than someone who only knows local language. Some people also learn new language to have an ease in communication between the international bodies even when they are in their local country for example ,Anthony learnt how to speak German and when there was an opportunity to work in Germany he applied to work remotely even when he is in his local country Nigeria. He got the job remotely and in addition he got more German connections and it changed his life.
In conclusion , learning a foreign language has more merits than demerits . even though you want to travel and work in a foreign or you want to appear more knowledgeable than others its still an A+ to diversify your speaking skills.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views regarding the purpose of learning a foreign language. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention travel/work and cognitive benefits, the arguments lack depth and specific supporting evidence. The personal example regarding 'Anthony' is relevant but could be better integrated to support the broader argument about international communication. Your position is stated in the conclusion, but it would be more effective to clearly outline your stance in the introduction to ensure a consistent perspective throughout the essay. To improve, focus on expanding your points with more detailed explanations rather than listing them briefly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is abrupt. Some sentences lack clear logical links, such as the transition from the cost of learning to the benefits of intelligence. While the overall progression is clear, the use of referencing and linking words could be more sophisticated to improve the flow between ideas. Improving the variety of transition signals would help achieve a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'diversify' and 'international bodies'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'more smarter' (which is grammatically incorrect as 'smarter' is already comparative) and 'ignorant to learning'. These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding redundant phrasing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic or topic-specific terms would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Most people are ignorant to learning new language' (missing articles) and 'even when he is in his local country' (tense inconsistency). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with comma usage and run-on sentences. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement, article usage, and consistent verb tenses will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
