Student answer (Band 6.0)
Learning new languages is a need in our current world .Being monolingual is definitely rare . In this context ,some people other speak or want to learn languages different than their own in order to communicate with foreign individuals easily when working or travelling to their country , while others argue that there’s a lot more reasons to learn a new language than the mere reason of work or travel ..
One argument is that we only need to speak a language other than ours is to understand and talk to others directly whether it is for work or pleasure.most people in japan or china for example don’t understand english , so as a tourist there u would be completely lost if you can’t at least know basic words in their language ,such as directions , names of means of transport… But why would i learn Chinese if i am not going to china? To brag? Learning such a difficult language be a loss of time and energy …
However , speaking a new language is a win even if you have no plans of going to countries speaking it.
How? You might ask. First things first ,a language is an important tool ,you never know when you are going to need it whether if you meet a foreigner in your own country who can’t speak your language that well and who happens to be lost or needing help , or if you meet someone online , or even if you find an surprising and quick opportunity in some country of the world and you won’t have time to learn the language from scratch . Add to that ,bilingual people are proven to be more intelligent than monolingual people , that is because a new language unlocks new perspectives and new ways of thinking ! Multilingual individuals including me know that for sure, even one’s personality sometimes alters with the switch of the language one is talking in .last but not least , a lot of people have fun and enjoy learning languages !
Personally , i believe that anyone should learn new languages whether to travel or work in other countries or to enjoy it and build a sharper brain.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly the benefits of language learning beyond travel and work. However, the development of the first viewpoint is slightly weaker; the rhetorical question 'To brag?' is informal and detracts from the academic tone. While the position is clear throughout, the essay would benefit from more formal supporting examples rather than personal anecdotes like 'including me'. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'However', 'First things first', and 'Add to that', though some transitions feel slightly informal or mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, although the connection between the paragraph about travel and the subsequent paragraph about cognitive benefits could be smoother. Referencing is mostly clear, though the informal tone occasionally disrupts the flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, such as 'monolingual', 'perspectives', and 'alters'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'mere reason of work' and 'find an surprising and quick opportunity'. The tone is occasionally too conversational, which limits the range of sophisticated academic vocabulary. Spelling is generally accurate, but the overall lexical range is somewhat restricted by the informal register.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'some people other speak' (word order), 'there’s a lot more reasons' (subject-verb agreement), and 'whether if you meet' (redundant conjunctions). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with frequent spacing errors before commas and periods. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. The student demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, but control over these structures needs improvement to ensure accuracy.
