Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people believe that the abroad language is only learned by people for travel to other countries and other think's the abroad language is not only for the travel. In the below I will explain some reasons for both that will support my opinion.

First of all, I think the main reason of learning the foreign language is travel to abroad because if a man wants to go to abroad then he has need of specific language.

For example, my cousin had gone to Australia for his higher education so, then his consultant asked him to take his English test. After his English test he become eligible for travel to Australia. After this experience I think the foreign language is most important for study in abroad.

There are many advantages of having a foreign language because it an opportunity for people to learn about other countries and also about their traditions and it also helped the people communicate with the overseas people.

On the other hand, many people say foreign language is not only for travel to abroad but I think abroad language have no any other reasons. For example Our national language is Urdu and all the people talk this language easily but if a man wants to learn foreign language then he needs to pay a high cost to teacher for its tuition.

When people start learning about other country language then he has need to pay full heed on this language and also many time.

In conclusion, In my opinion, I think foreign language is not useful for those who not wants to study to abroad.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views, but the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. While you mention that language learning has benefits beyond travel, such as learning about traditions, this point is not fully explored. Furthermore, your conclusion contradicts your earlier point about the benefits of language learning, stating that it is 'not useful' for those not studying abroad, which weakens the overall argument. To improve, ensure your position is consistent throughout the essay and provide more depth to your supporting arguments, particularly regarding the cognitive or cultural benefits of language acquisition beyond professional or academic necessity.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While you use basic cohesive devices like 'First of all' and 'On the other hand', the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical or confusing, such as the shift in the fourth paragraph. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly with the use of 'he' or 'it' without a clear antecedent. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that flows logically into the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'abroad language' (which is non-standard) and 'travel'. There are frequent errors in word choice, such as 'abroad language' instead of 'foreign language' and 'pay full heed on' instead of 'pay full attention to'. The range is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. To improve, focus on learning collocations and more academic synonyms for common words. Avoid repeating the same phrases throughout the text and try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to linguistics or cultural exchange.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with article usage ('the abroad language'), subject-verb agreement ('other think's'), and sentence structure ('if a man wants to go to abroad then he has need of specific language'). Complex sentence structures are attempted but are often faulty, leading to awkward phrasing. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically the correct use of articles, prepositions, and verb tenses. Proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement will significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
