Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides an opinion, though the development is limited. The arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack specific, concrete examples to support the claims. For instance, the discussion on 'business' and 'customer satisfaction' is vague and does not clearly explain how language skills specifically facilitate these outcomes. The position is stated in the introduction and conclusion, but the supporting points in the body paragraphs are under-developed, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, you should focus on expanding your ideas with clear, logical explanations and specific real-world examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'On the other hand', they are sometimes used mechanically or incorrectly. For example, the transition 'In the commence' is non-standard and confusing. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of your argument. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus will help improve the logical flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. You rely on a limited set of words, such as 'reasons', 'language', and 'skills', which are used frequently throughout the text. There are also several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'getting foreign language skills' instead of 'acquiring' or 'learning', and 'work in abroad' instead of 'work abroad'. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary and use more precise, academic terminology appropriate for an IELTS essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the essay that occasionally impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'learning numerous language help'), incorrect article usage, and sentence fragments or run-on sentences. The structure of your sentences is mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex structures. When you do attempt more complex sentences, they often contain errors in punctuation or syntax. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and verb forms will significantly improve your accuracy.
