Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, there is a debate over whether non-native language should be learnt only for traveling perspective or there are other reasons as well why people need to learn foreign language. This essay will address both opinion before stating that there are multiple reason why we need to learn foreign languages.

According to first group, people usually speak their native language in their country. To explain, at working place, house, and public places means everywhere people speak their own language so there is no need to learn other language. However, the persons who move abroad, they have to be multilingual in order to have a conversation on other countries. Moreover, some international companies hire the candidates who speak their native language. As a result, people, who are moving abroad need to learn foreign languages.

As per second view, countries like India, have multilingual people. every state has different language. Therefore, most of the metro city people speak in English that is foreign language. for the purpose of learning English is to not learn every single state language. As English has become uniform language for the world, people have preferred the one common language which has been accepted by world.

In my opinion, it also depends on people interests. To illustrate, nowadays, learning different language has become interesting concept. So, student do masters in languages. Therefore, learning foreign language is no longer just for work or traveling. it has become interest for people. Countries such as United kingdom has a lot of foreign people. To have better conversation, having interest in different language and people feel that learning foreign language is learning different culture. so people fond of it and interest make them to learn other languages.

To conclude, traveling can be a reason of learning foreign language though culture has become most interesting concept for our generation therefore our generation is keen to learn foreign languages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph effectively discusses the necessity of language for work and travel. The second paragraph regarding English as a 'uniform language' is relevant but slightly underdeveloped in its connection to the prompt. The final paragraph introduces the idea of language as a cultural interest, which is a strong point, but the explanation remains a bit superficial. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or deeper analysis for each point mentioned rather than listing multiple ideas briefly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the frequent use of 'Therefore' and 'To illustrate' feels a bit forced. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt, such as in the second paragraph where the jump from native language usage to international companies lacks a smooth logical connector. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph flows naturally into the next would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'people speak their own language' and 'learning different language'. There are also some minor word-choice errors, such as 'traveling perspective' instead of 'travel purposes' and 'interesting concept' which is a bit vague. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and less common vocabulary related to linguistics, globalization, and cultural exchange to demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'at working place', 'in United kingdom'), subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'student do masters'), and punctuation mistakes. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering the use of articles and ensuring consistent verb forms. Attempting more complex sentence structures is good, but ensure they are grammatically sound before using them in your final draft.
