IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country. Others say that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that learning another language is only possible when we visit or stayed in that country. when we work or stayed there, we interact with many people of that place in this way we learn foreign language. While other people argue that this is not only a source to learn different languages. This essay will discuss both perspective before explaining explaining that there are many other sources to learn languages .

On the other hand, supporter of learning language while stayed in that country is only major source. This is because of staying in a country or work increase their interaction with people and they may communicate with that native language people and this interaction increase their vocubary. for example if a person remains there and work at a company then he communicates with his colleagues and during this conservation he may learns many words of their languages and understands their native language. that's why people believe that it is beneficial to work or stayed there for the learning of language.

on the other hand , some people believe that there are many sources to learn different languages. we may learn from different online platforms. Many courses are now available on the internet for the interested language. Foe example if someone want to learn German language he may learns from different apps or google sources. that's why there are many sources , through which we may learn language.

For my Perspective , although work in that country may also helpful for learning the language by communicating with different people but I believe that learning from online sources including different apps ,website and from AI are most beneficial sources.

In conclusion, both learning online and offline have their own merits . I firmly believe that online is best platform for learning languages because through online people save their time and money and they learn whenever they have free time.

Paragraphing is used, but the internal flow within paragraphs could be smoother.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'conservation' instead of 'conversation' and 'vocubary' (spelling error). The range of vocabulary is limited to basic terms, and there is little attempt to use less common or idiomatic language. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of lexical flexibility and the presence of spelling errors prevent the essay from achieving a higher score in this category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'he may learns'), tense inconsistencies (e.g., 'learning another language is only possible when we visit or stayed'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with irregular spacing around commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader and indicate a lack of control over complex structures.
