Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph, which discusses the view that language learning is only for travel or work, is slightly repetitive and lacks depth regarding why some people hold this view. The second body paragraph provides relevant examples, such as career opportunities and confidence building, which supports the argument well. To improve, ensure that each point is fully explored with more specific reasoning rather than just listing benefits. The conclusion is a bit brief and could better synthesize the main arguments presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Another solid reasons which supports to this verdict that.' Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or lack smooth flow, which occasionally disrupts the coherence. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words and ensuring that referencing is consistent would help elevate the score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at using less common items like 'prohibitive,' 'lucrative,' and 'articulate.' However, there are frequent spelling errors, such as 'langugae,' 'wether,' 'insitutes,' and 'morever.' Furthermore, there are issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'a bunch of people' (too informal), 'communicating peoples' (incorrect preposition/usage), and 'mastering in foreign language' (incorrect preposition). To achieve a higher band, focus on accurate spelling and using more precise, academic collocations rather than informal or repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'benefits which contributes'), article usage (e.g., 'go to abroad'), and sentence construction (e.g., 'Another solid reasons which supports to this verdict that...'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary semicolons used in several places. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity and flow of the writing. More attention to basic grammatical rules and proofreading for sentence structure is necessary.
