Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'hobbies' and 'movies' is a bit simplistic and lacks depth. While the task is addressed, the explanation of why people learn languages for reasons other than work or travel could be more robustly supported with more sophisticated examples. The position is consistent, but the overall depth of analysis is limited, which prevents it from reaching a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To initiate with', 'Moving further', and 'In conclusion', although some of these are slightly mechanical or non-standard. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are disjointed due to punctuation errors. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the essay flows reasonably well from one point to the next, despite some minor awkwardness in transitions.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. There are several spelling errors (e.g., 'intract', 'tounge', 'Particulary', 'influnced') and some awkward collocations (e.g., 'record has been notices'). The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles to use less common lexical items accurately. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the frequency of spelling mistakes limit the score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. Issues include incorrect article usage ('the better job opportunities'), subject-verb agreement ('an individual learn'), and persistent punctuation errors (e.g., spaces before commas). While the meaning is usually conveyed, the high frequency of basic grammatical slips prevents the essay from achieving a higher score.
