Student answer (Band 5.0)
In this time, every one should know how to talk and most people have intrest in learning language and others people have no intrest. Some says that it is important for those who want to go foreign country.
In my opinion, it is very important for those persons who want to go foreign for work and travel. Its help them to comunicate with foreign people and enjoy the journey because they cannot have any type of stress that how i talk with them. My friend go abroad for work i suggest him to learn language of country where you are goinig and when he reach there and spend some time and he call me and tell me about every thing that language helps me to understand people. Learning foreign language helps you to understand foreign people.
On the other side, some people say that this is not the main reason that people learn foreign language they said that they just learn foreign language to show the other peoples that they are more good than others. In my opinion thats not true because some people learn different types of language and work as translater. My nears one learn 25 kinds of language and he work as a dealer netween those persons who cannot understand eachother language. Now its become a business and they earn alot of money from this way. Mostly people think that it is not good.
In conclusion, both are good in their own field some choose foreign language for work and some learn for their business.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views mentioned in the prompt, but the development of ideas is limited. While you provide personal examples, such as your friend going abroad and your acquaintance working as a translator, these are anecdotal and lack the depth required for a higher band. The position is stated, but the arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack a sophisticated analysis of the broader benefits of language learning (e.g., cognitive development or cultural appreciation). To improve, focus on expanding your points with more detailed explanations and ensuring that your own opinion is clearly integrated throughout the essay rather than just mentioned in passing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is very basic and sometimes mechanical. Phrases like 'In my opinion' and 'On the other side' are used, but there is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas within and between sentences. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between the idea of 'showing off' and 'working as a translator' feels abrupt. Improving the variety of transition signals and ensuring clear referencing would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts your ability to convey complex ideas. You frequently use basic terms like 'good', 'learn', and 'people'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'more good than others' instead of 'superior' or 'better', and 'nears one' instead of 'acquaintance' or 'close friend'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of a wider range of vocabulary and the presence of errors in word formation (e.g., 'translater' instead of 'translator') prevent a higher score. Focus on learning synonyms and collocations related to education and professional development.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement ('Some says', 'its become'), missing articles, and incorrect verb tenses ('My friend go abroad'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with run-on sentences and missing commas. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, you should practice using a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses and conditional sentences, while paying closer attention to basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading for common errors.
