Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views regarding the purpose of learning a foreign language and provides a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is quite limited. The arguments are repetitive and lack depth or specific examples to support the claims. For instance, the discussion on 'workplace requirements' and 'curiosity' remains superficial. To reach a higher band, you need to extend your ideas with more detailed explanations and concrete examples. The position is clear, but the overall response feels underdeveloped, which restricts the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas effectively. Transitions between the two viewpoints and your own opinion are abrupt. For example, the shift to your personal opinion in the final paragraph lacks a clear signpost. Additionally, referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow of ideas is hindered by the repetitive nature of the sentences. Improving the use of linking words such as 'furthermore', 'conversely', or 'consequently' would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple phrasing. There are several spelling errors, such as 'Foriegn' (repeatedly), 'communiacte', 'employeer', 'curosity', 'tounge', and 'insght'. These errors are frequent and occasionally distract the reader. While you attempt to use some topic-specific terms like 'Bilingual' and 'collaborate', the range is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. To improve, you should focus on accurate spelling and expanding your range of vocabulary to include more sophisticated synonyms and collocations related to language learning and cultural exchange.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it's become easier'), missing articles, and incorrect punctuation (e.g., 'it;s'). The sentence structure is often simplistic, and the errors occasionally impede the flow of the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common punctuation and article usage errors. Increasing the variety of sentence structures while maintaining accuracy is essential for a higher band score.
