Student answer (Band 5.0)
People learn different foreign languages in order to travel or to work in other countries. Some people say that these are the only reasons to learn foreign language but some people say that learning different foreign languages have several more reasons. In my opinion the main and important reason is to work in foreign country and also several other reasons that i will discuss in coming paragraphs.
First on the one hand people who work in some English country need to learn their language because in order to work and communicate with their fellows and clients. They did not survive much if they are not able to understand their language. For example if a person lives in their own country but work with international clients he did not speak and talk with them in their language does not able to understand their concerns and requirements. They will not hire you and will not give you work in future.
On the other hand many people of different countries travel in all around the world and every country have their own language. They should have some knowledge about their language in order to travel to those destinations which is famous in their country. Furthermore some people leave their country in order to stay in other country but did face many difficulties only because of lack in speaking and understanding their language.
To conclude that one of the main reason of learning foreign language is to work and also travelling in other countries. People learn different languages because they do not want to face much difficulty in order to survive in their country specially for those who immigrate to other country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views mentioned in the prompt, but the development is limited. While you state your opinion in the introduction, the body paragraphs focus almost exclusively on the 'work and travel' perspective, failing to adequately explore the 'other reasons' (such as cultural appreciation, cognitive benefits, or personal growth) mentioned in the prompt. The arguments provided are somewhat repetitive and lack specific, well-developed examples. To improve, ensure you provide distinct, balanced arguments for both sides of the debate and expand on your own opinion with more depth and clarity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'First on the one hand', 'On the other hand'). Some transitions are awkward, such as the opening of the conclusion, 'To conclude that one of the main reason...', which is grammatically incomplete and does not effectively signal a summary. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by unclear referencing, making it difficult to follow the logical flow between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive, relying on a narrow range of words such as 'work', 'language', and 'country'. There are instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'English country' (likely meaning English-speaking country) and 'did not survive much'. The range is insufficient to express more complex ideas with precision. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary and synonyms to avoid repetition and improve the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses ('he did not speak and talk', 'every country have their own language') and subject-verb agreement. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas in complex sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar structures limits the score. Focusing on consistent tense usage and proper sentence construction will significantly improve your accuracy.
