Student answer (Band 5.0)

In recent days there has been considerable debate about that the use of foreign language, where some individuals believes that it only use for when people go to somewhere else to do travel or a work. But proponents strongly believe that it has a lot of uses. In this essay will discusses both views and my perspective with a relevant example.

On the one hand, it becomes a trend that people often go to abroad to earn money, and there is need to learn foreign language before go to there. That may be a reason why people think it has a only two purpose travel or a work in particular countries. Learn foreign language is very helpful for the strangers who wants to visit other countries, for example, easy to talk to foreigner, also easy to get some help, and easy to find a job in foreign countries. Additionally, people can't use foreign language in their own country because there are no one who can understand it.

On the other hand individuals use foreign language in several sectors such as in studies, or a watching movies. This is because use it for further studies in foreign countries assist students to understand. For instance, mostly foreigner movies are dubbed before comes in our theatre, sometimes the dubbed words and the reaction of actors totally mismatch, which makes the whole movie cringe. Moreover, individuals use foreign language to guide the tourists, which encourage tourism in our country like Nepal.

In conclusion, after examining both views, i am certain about it has a lot of uses instead of only travel or a work in foreign countries. That is because students use it for their studies.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The essay addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention travel and work, the arguments regarding other uses (movies, tourism) are not fully explored or linked back to the broader benefits of language learning. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack depth and specific examples that would elevate the response. To improve, ensure each paragraph provides a more detailed explanation of why these reasons are significant, rather than just listing them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'In recent days there has been considerable debate about that the use of...' and 'In this essay will discusses...'. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between studying and watching movies feels abrupt. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') would help the flow of your writing significantly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'go to abroad', 'strangers who wants to visit', and 'foreigner movies'. These errors occasionally make the text feel repetitive or unnatural. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. Avoid repeating basic terms like 'foreign language' and 'countries' too frequently; instead, use synonyms or paraphrasing to demonstrate a wider range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement ('individuals believes', 'there are no one'), article usage ('a only two purpose'), and sentence structure ('In this essay will discusses'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors impede the flow and demonstrate a limited control over complex structures. You rely heavily on simple sentence patterns. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and then attempt to incorporate more complex sentence structures like relative clauses or conditional sentences with greater accuracy.
