Student answer (Band 5.5)

Few individuals argue that the only reason for learning a foreign language is just to move or work in a another country. While opposition says that these are not the only reasons why anyone should learn a foreign language.in this essay i will discuss both aspects.

First i will talk about learning a foreign language can be beneficial in different situations of life, obviously this helps us to interact with foreigners easily and we can easily express our feelings or our motive to next person. We also have to go through various circumstances by the time and we had to interact with any kind of person so we must have to know about that language.

On the other hand, people says that learning a foreign language is just to travel foreign or work there, Yes this plays a vital role in this situation if you have to move foreign or to work there, If you did not know the basics then it will be difficult for you to survive in foreign. Besides that if you dont even know the language you would not be able to pass immigration.

In my point of view, traveling to foreign or working there definately requires the understanding of that language. But it also helps in daily routines in foreign.

In conclusion, learning foreign language helps to travel or work in foreign but it is also needed for daily survival in that country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views and provides an opinion, but the development is insufficient. The essay fails to meet the 250-word minimum requirement, which significantly impacts the depth of the arguments. The points made regarding 'daily survival' and 'interaction' are repetitive and lack specific examples or detailed explanation. The position is clear, but the overall development is underdeveloped, leading to a superficial treatment of the prompt. To improve, you must expand on your ideas with concrete examples and ensure the essay meets the required length to allow for a full discussion of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While there are some cohesive devices like 'On the other hand' and 'In conclusion', they are used in a somewhat mechanical way. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences is disjointed. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is abrupt. To achieve a higher score, you should use a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear central topic sentence that links back to the main argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic phrases such as 'foreign language', 'move', and 'work', which restricts the range of your expression. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'interact with any kind of person' and 'travel foreign'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and variety expected for higher bands. You should focus on learning synonyms and more sophisticated collocations related to language learning and global mobility to enhance your lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('people says'), missing articles, and punctuation errors, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters. Some sentences are also grammatically incomplete or awkward, such as 'While opposition says that these are not the only reasons'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. You need to focus on subject-verb agreement, consistent tense usage, and basic sentence punctuation to improve your accuracy.
