Student answer (Band 6.0)

Learning foreign language is a strenuous yet interesting task to do. Although numerous individual believes that the only motive behind acquiring a foreign language is to travel or to be settled in abroad. However, a few also believes these are the not the rational behind it. This essay intends to analyze both the perspectives in the forthcoming paragraphs with relevant examples. Yet, my inclination falls incline with the latter one.

On the one hand, people advocates that learning a foreign language is only required if someone has to move abroad for the purpose of work or to travel. Moreover, If people would try to know foreign languages, it would help them to experience new adventures in the abroad countries. It may enhance their confidence while their communication with the local residents of the particular country, which would help them to have a positive impact on their life.

On the other hand, a few of individuals feels that these should not be the reason behind learning a new language. Firstly, learning is a process which should be continued till the end of a person's life and humans should never stop learning in any aspect of life. Thus, acquiring a new language only for the sake of travelling or moving to a country is not enough. Mankind should always try to learn something new as it enhances their knowledge and understandings. Secondly, learning a new language improves the concentration and also helps to know about the culture and tradition of other countries as well.

In my opinion, despite the fact that learning foreign languages are important for someone who has to travel abroad or have to visit there for work, a person should learn foreign languages for their own improvement and development.

In conclusion, in the wake of above, it is clearly and logically concluded that, learning should not be done according to the need but it should be done according to the interest and there willing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that learning a language aids in 'concentration' and 'culture', these points are not fully extended with concrete examples or deeper analysis. The introduction is slightly repetitive, and the conclusion is a bit abrupt. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph provides a specific, well-explained example to support your claims, rather than relying on general statements. Your position is consistent, but the depth of the discussion needs more expansion to fully satisfy the requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Firstly', which effectively signal the transition between ideas. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'in the wake of above'. Additionally, there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as 'the latter one' in the introduction, which could be more explicitly defined. The logical progression is generally sound, but improving the variety and natural flow of your linking words would enhance the overall coherence of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'strenuous', 'rational', and 'inclination'. However, there are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'settled in abroad' (should be 'settled abroad'), 'people advocates' (should be 'people advocate'), and 'there willing' (should be 'their willingness'). These errors occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on learning the correct prepositional usage and word forms. While you attempt to use more sophisticated vocabulary, the inaccuracies prevent the range from being considered flexible or precise enough for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'individual believes', 'a few of individuals feels') and article usage (e.g., 'in the abroad countries'). There are also issues with sentence fragments and awkward phrasing, such as 'However, a few also believes these are the not the rational behind it.' These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, though they do not completely impede communication. Increasing your control over basic grammatical rules and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your score.
