Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the prompt asks to discuss both views and provide an opinion, the essay is underdeveloped and lacks a clear structure. The arguments regarding language learning for career advancement or personal growth are mentioned but not sufficiently supported with relevant examples or logical progression. The position is stated, but the brevity of the response prevents a full exploration of the topic. To improve, you must expand on each point with specific examples and ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed in detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks a clear paragraph structure, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and arguments effectively. For instance, the transition between the idea of learning languages in free time and the mention of foreign students is abrupt and confusing. The use of referencing is often unclear, making it difficult to identify the subjects of the sentences. To achieve a higher band, you should organize your response into clear paragraphs (introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion) and use linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in contrast' to connect your thoughts.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms that do not fully convey the intended meaning. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'foreign base' and 'instead spend free time as a laziness'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To improve, you should focus on learning collocations and more precise vocabulary related to the topic of education and professional development. Expanding your range of synonyms and using them in the correct context will help you express your ideas more clearly and effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'he also, like to learn'), sentence fragments, and incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'he wanna gone to apply'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there are very few attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas and missing full stops. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that each sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofreading your work to correct common errors in tense and word order.
