Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views mentioned in the prompt, but the development of ideas is limited and often repetitive. The essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the depth of the argument. While you attempt to discuss the benefits of language learning beyond travel and work, the points are underdeveloped and lack clear logical progression. Your own opinion is not clearly stated or sustained throughout the response. To improve, ensure you provide more detailed explanations and specific examples for each point, and strive to meet the length requirement to allow for a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no clear introduction or conclusion, and the body paragraphs are not well-defined. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'when' and 'then' to link ideas. Paragraphing is insufficient, making the text difficult to follow. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to connect sentences and ideas logically. Ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that the overall flow of the argument is easy for the reader to track.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'foregin', 'langguage', 'translater', and 'eassy'. These errors sometimes make it difficult to understand the intended meaning. You rely on simple phrasing, which restricts your ability to express complex ideas. To improve, focus on learning collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to education and career development. Proofreading for spelling errors is essential, as these detract from the professionalism of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence structures. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'they helps', 'citizens gets'), article usage, and sentence construction. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, which impedes clarity. For example, 'A Number of peoples say that the learning a foregin language is only one of a reason' contains multiple grammatical inaccuracies. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and subject-verb agreement. Practice using a variety of complex sentences, such as those using relative clauses or conditional structures, while ensuring they are grammatically correct.
