Student answer (Band 5.5)

As far as this topic is concerned, trend of learning a foreign language is now more popular than ever. While people say one must learn a new language only when there is a requirement of traveling or for a job.

Majority people think that having a command on foreign languages helps in networking, Nowadays, people on social media want to connect with foreigners just to understand their culture and history. For example, I learned German language when i was twenty years old just because i was interested in German literature. Especially in new generation this trend is very famous because of foreign content some countries like Japan and South Korea is very famous for their film industry because these countries produce content only in their national languages.

However, people still believes that it is a waste of time and effort to learn a new language. To some extent, it is true in the era of internet you can find everything on the internet in your native language. Furthermore, some people says learning a new language is just a bandwagon.

In my point of view, there is nothing wrong in learning a new language its helps in so many ways. For some people its just a hobby to having a command on different languages. In think people who belong to a certain business like trading should learn a foreign language because it can help them to scale their business and also provide a command on supply chain. To sum up this, i strongly believe that people should learn new languages because i not see any disadvantages having a command on foreign languages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'bandwagon' effect is mentioned but not fully explored or refuted. The points about business and culture are relevant but lack depth, relying on brief examples. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your reasoning with more detailed explanations or specific real-world implications. The conclusion is present but could be more robust in summarizing the main points discussed in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition 'To sum up this' is non-standard, and the connection between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. Some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the transition between the discussion of internet content and the 'bandwagon' point. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on common phrases like 'popular than ever' and 'waste of time'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'having a command on' (should be 'command of') and 'in new generation' (should be 'in the new generation'). While the meaning is always clear, the lack of sophisticated or less common vocabulary limits the score. Try to incorporate more precise academic terminology related to language acquisition and globalization.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('people still believes', 'some people says'), missing articles ('in new generation'), and punctuation errors. Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or run-on, such as 'For example, I learned German language when i was twenty years old just because i was interested in German literature.' These errors are persistent throughout the text. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage would improve your accuracy.
