Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that few masses says that the mere reason for learning an international language is to travel to other nations or find employment in foreign countries whereas other have some more reasons to do the same. In this essay, I will discuss the bilateral viewpoints along with my own opinion.

On the one hand, there are some people who believe learning an international language often assists in travelling in other countries and make it convenient to find a opportunity for good job in other nations. For instance, an article published in New York Times in 2020 which conclude that having a knowledge of multiple languages often makes a person more confident to explore around and opens a door for opportunities of white collar jobs. Hence, it is proved that knowing one than more languages helps with a chunk of opportunities and a person can travel around to explore the things and so on.

On the other hand, a section of society opine that these are not only the reasons when a person should learn a foreign language. Also, one can learn a international language just help own country by doing job in detective department. For example, an article was published in Hindustan Times in 2024, which revealed how a young guy 24 years old got the highest rank job in Indian detective agency just by knowing multiple languages and helping ones own country from different betrays. Therefore, it was not a denying fact that learning a foreign language just not helps with travel and work only.

In my own opinion. although it is inevitable fact that learning a foreign language can assist in worldwide travel and work but at the same time it is quite useful to help own nation by doing its demanding jobs.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention travel and work, the explanation of the 'other' reasons is slightly narrow, focusing primarily on detective work. The examples provided, such as the New York Times and Hindustan Times references, are relevant but lack depth in their analysis. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more fully extended and that the connection between the examples and your main points is more robust. Your position is consistent throughout the essay, which is a positive aspect of your response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' to signal shifts in perspective. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Also, one can learn a international language just help own country'. The flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is precise. While the overall progression is logical, the cohesion occasionally feels a bit forced or repetitive.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. There are several instances of unnatural phrasing or word choice errors, such as 'few masses says', 'a chunk of opportunities', and 'different betrays'. These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight a limited range of vocabulary. To improve, focus on learning collocations and more sophisticated synonyms for common words. Avoid informal or imprecise expressions like 'young guy' or 'chunk of' in an academic context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include article misuse ('a international language'), subject-verb agreement ('few masses says'), and awkward sentence construction ('it was not a denying fact that'). While your meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in grammar and punctuation prevent the text from achieving a higher score. Focus on mastering basic sentence patterns and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms to improve your accuracy.
