Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is argue that some of the individuals say that learning foreign language is in order to travel or work in a foreign countries but other believes that this not the only reason why someone should learn a foreign language . In this essay we are going to discuss both views and give opinion .

Firstly learning foreign language is good for a person who is going to travel to or working in a foreign country ,it helps to communicate and understand the other culture ,you can make new friends ,it make your daily life easy, for instance you can go for shopping and can book a doctor appointment or open an bank account .If you learn the foreign language before going to that country it could be more effortless for you to engage with the community.

Some of the people learn different foreign languages not just for going foreign countries but just to gain knowledge. Many of them like to learn different languages so that they can teach other as well .some them learn because they want to watch other countries dramas , so if they know their language so it could be better form them to understand the whole story .

For instance in Pakistan a lot of people like to watch foreign dramas and movies specially Turkish and Korean dramas, So for that some of them learn their language so they can understand what they are saying in movie .

In my opinion it depends on the person whether he or she want to learn a foreign language for going to that country or just for fun.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides an opinion, though the development is quite limited. While you mention reasons for learning a language (travel, work, knowledge, entertainment), the ideas are not fully extended or supported with sufficient depth. The introduction is somewhat repetitive and lacks a clear, sophisticated thesis statement. The conclusion is also very brief and does not effectively summarize the main points discussed. To improve, you should aim to provide more detailed explanations and more nuanced examples to demonstrate a deeper engagement with the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite basic and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is abrupt. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas within and between sentences. Furthermore, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the overall progression of ideas feels somewhat disjointed. Improving the variety of transition signals and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band score. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'learn a foreign language' and 'go to foreign countries'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'go for shopping' (should be 'go shopping') and 'open an bank account' (should be 'open a bank account'). To achieve a higher score, you should incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary and idiomatic expressions, and pay closer attention to correct word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('It is argue', 'other believes'), article usage ('an bank account'), and punctuation errors. The sentence construction is often simplistic, and the lack of control over basic grammar rules makes the writing feel less professional. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement, consistent verb tenses, and the correct use of articles. Proofreading for these common errors before finishing your task is essential.
