Student answer (Band 5.0)
As far as this topic is concerned, I would like to say that the people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country. Others say that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language.which has always been debatable and has now become more controversial with many people claiming that it is beneficial while others reject this notion. The substantial influence of this trend has sparked the controversy over the potential impact in the recent years. From my perspective, the former proposition appears to be more rational. This essay will further elaborate my views for favoring the positive or negative impact of this trend and thus will lead to a logical conclusion.
Analyzing the statement further, the primary reason behind this the learning a foreign language can improve communication between people from different countries. In today's globalised world, people often communicate with foreigners for education, business and social activities Categorically discussing, it cannot be ignored that the main reason behind this is that especially in our country, it has far-reaching consequences. In addition, knowing another language can provide better job opportunities, even when a person does not work in a foreign country. For instance, many international companies prefer employees who can communicate with foreign customers.
Moving further, it is pertinent to mention that it is the basic duty of the government to provide a safe and stable society for the betterment of the public. It is imperative for the authorities concerned to look into the factor behind this issue and take a drastic action against the concerned persons.
To encapsulate, I would like to appeal to the learned figures to come forward, focus their gaze at this issue and launch a vigorous campaign to reform it across the society

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt regarding the reasons for learning a foreign language, but it suffers from significant irrelevancies and memorised template-like phrases. While the student mentions communication and job opportunities in the second paragraph, these points are not fully developed or well-supported. Furthermore, the third and fourth paragraphs deviate entirely into talking about the government, public safety, and appealing to 'learned figures,' which has no relevance to the topic of foreign languages. The position is obscured by contradictory template language in the introduction, such as 'favoring the positive or negative impact of this trend.' Overall, the task is only partially addressed, leading to a Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response shows an attempt at paragraphing, but the overall progression of ideas is disjointed due to irrelevant content. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inappropriately, such as 'Moving further, it is pertinent to mention' followed by a completely disconnected point about government duties. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between ideas breaks down completely in the second half of the essay. While there is some logical sequencing within individual sentences, the lack of a cohesive overarching argument results in a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is a mix of basic terms and heavily overused, mismatched template phrases. The student attempts less common vocabulary such as 'globalised,' 'far-reaching consequences,' and 'vigorous campaign,' but these are often used inappropriately within the context of the prompt, as seen in the conclusion regarding 'learned figures' and public safety. There are also noticeable word-choice and collocation issues. Although the language is mostly understandable, the lexical limitations and inappropriate formulaic expressions place this at a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control is inconsistent. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, such as 'behind this the learning a foreign language can improve' and 'look into the factor behind this issue and take a drastic action.' Punctuation and article usage are frequently faulty, causing some difficulty for the reader. The frequency of grammatical errors across complex attempts keeps the score at a Band 5.0.
