Student answer (Band 5.0)
THERE have been an ongoing debate about learing a foreign language is in order to travel or work in different country . Some believe that this is not the only reason for someone to learn foreign language this essay will disscus both views before presenting my opinion
On the one hand proponets of learning language for traveling and to do work in other country argue that this is primarily because if someone has already learn the language of other country before going he will face no difficulties in other country and he will not feel any stress about language he will be very easy in ther country . IN addition to this he will be very relax and over joy while traveling due to his abilty of local language . he will order anything in hotel any famous food of that country for example if someone goes to spain and he know the spanish he wil face no difficulty during his travel he could learn about the culture easily and can get knowledge about the country and can learn about thier history
on the other hand critics contend that this is not the only reason for someone to learn language of other country this view point is supported by the fact that if someone want to know about the culture of other country and he cannot visit the country then he can learn the language for knowing the history of that country for example if someone have not enough money to travel or do work in another country then he can learn the language
from my prespective learning language for both purpose is convinent because learning language is best view to know about other country
in conclusion, both views have thier own merits , i believe that learning language i best as it is morepractical and benificial

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that learning a language is solely for travel and work abroad versus other reasons—and provides a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly in the body paragraphs where points about culture and travel are rephrased without significant new extension. The position is stated, though it lacks clear elaboration in the conclusion. These limitations place the performance firmly in the Band 5 to 6 range, leaning towards Band 5.0 due to the under-developed supporting examples and repetitive nature of the arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks proper punctuation, capitalisation, and standard paragraphing conventions. The student uses very few explicit cohesive devices, relying instead on repetitive phrases like 'for example if someone' and run-on sentences. There is some overall organisation, with a clear separation of introduction, body views, and conclusion, but the lack of basic organisational markers and mechanical phrasing makes progression difficult to follow at times. This reflects the characteristics of Band 5, where organisation is present but cohesive devices and referencing are inadequate or inaccurate.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with frequent misspellings such as 'learing', 'disscus', 'proponets', 'abilty', 'thier', and 'benificial'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to the topic (e.g., 'proponents', 'culture', 'merits'), but the lexical control is weak. Word choice is sometimes unnatural, such as 'he will be very easy in ther country' and 'learning language is best view'. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and align well with Band 5 descriptors for Lexical Resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mainly of lengthy, poorly punctuated complex sentences joined by conjunctions like 'and' or missing punctuation altogether. There is a frequent lack of capitalisation and a high density of basic errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('there have been an ongoing debate', 'both views have thier own merits') and missing articles. Complex structures attempted by the student are consistently faulty. These frequent grammatical and punctuation errors heavily impact readability and correspond to a Band 4.5 or 5.0; a score of 5.0 is awarded as meaning is generally conveyed despite the errors.
